Over Easy

Cooking shows have come a long way since the early days of television. I especially remember Wok with Yan on Canadian TV.  It was a much simpler time and so different from things like Hell’s Kitchen, Top Chef, and the British Baking Show.  With the exception of the original Japanese TV show Iron Chef, I am not sure things are better.

What has this got to do with Today’s Perfect Moment? Everything and nothing is the best answer I can give you.  Hopefully after reading a bit more you will understand.

Today’s Perfect Moment has to do with omelettes. I love making and eating omelettes. On my fantastic bike trips to Vietnam and Cambodia I had them as often as possible.  At home, I have them less often, but I still enjoy them on weekends when I have a chance to have them.  If you follow my instagram page, you have probably already seen photos of them.  You might even have read my post Omelette Revisited.

Today’s Perfect Moment is not about making the perfect omelette. There are lots of perfect ones. My omelette creations are dictated by what I have in the fridge and who I might be making them for.  Usually they are pretty good and sometimes they are even great.  Though I hate to brag, I have to tell you that today’s omelet was great.  Sadly, I didn’t have the forethought to prepare some good sides to go with it.

So if Today’s Perfect Moment is not about the perfect omelette, what is it about? Today’s Perfect Moment was about the perfect omelette flip out of the pan and onto the plate.  Nothing stuck. The omelette was cooked perfectly–the vegetables cooked but not too soft, the cheese melted, but not runny, and the eggs just fluffy enough.  When it came out of the pan it hit the plate in a perfect half-moon without breaking.  I muttered a “Ta Da!” to myself.

Everything comes full circle. This was something I had learned from one of those early cooking shows.

Turkey, the Day After

Unexpectedly Perfect

IMG-20190207-WA0037.jpgAfter we got back from cycling and the rush it gave me, I expected the rest of the day would be just okay.  I was completely wrong on this front.

Our guide offered his own personal tour.  He said it would be great, but I expected it to be just okay.

We went to one local swimming hole that was just okay.  It featured a Tarzan swing, but that was about it.

Then we went to a jungle area to look for frogs.  I have to admit that they were really cool.

Then we we to the supermarket to get some drinks to take to the hot springs–the super secret hot springs that very few people know about.  That’s where the magic happened.

So there we were, sitting in a warm spring, drinking our drinks and relaxing.  Our guide even made us a traditional Costa Rican cocktail—cacique and Fresca.  The sun went down and we lit candles to heighten the ambiance.

Honestly, that was such a perfect moment.  It was like the universe belonged to me, and me alone.

Sadly, at some point we had to leave in search of sustenance.  That turned out to be a “small” pizza and a beer.

Recliners

001

No, the movie is not called LOGAN RECLINERS. An odd twist saw myself and my two best friends going to see Logan.  For whatever reasons, they didn’t see them with their own children and were free to see it with me.  Perhaps because the Disney juggernaut Beauty and the Beast the movie had already been moved to a smaller theatre.  Normally, I would be a little miffed at this.  This time, however, I was pleasantly surprised.

This theatre, having to come up with other marketing strategies opted to put fewer seats in the theatre, by providing large seats with large armrests and a reclining function that included a leg rest. Basically, I had those Joey and Chandler (from Friends) big chairs.  There was no beer fridge in mine, but still.

Like I said, pleasantly surprised. Now I am starting to think everything in life could use a little upgrade.  For example

  • Guacamole should come free on my burritos
  • They should put the prizes back in cereal
  • Public washrooms should have larger toilets and more hanging hooks
  • All books should come with bookmarks
  • Buses should come with heated seats in winter
  • There should be more comics in my Saturday paper
  • Coffee should be free at work
  • The subway should have its own library

Feel free to add any upgrades you would like to see in your daily life.  I am very curious about your ideas.
